THE JACKA - THE VERDICT

THE JACKA
THE VERDICT
2012

2nd installment after The Indictment. Boy have I
been waiting for this one. I'm actually glad all three
didn't drop on the same day. Makes it better to truly get into it.
At first i was a little so so on the song choices and type
of tracks here, but so far I have to say it tops the first one overall.

1. The Verdict 1
2. Everyday
Typical Jacka track that provides. Nice little hook
of course and a chill beat/vibe to go with it.  4/5
3. Time Still Tickin ft. Lil Rue
Favourite track of the album. Really tight beat and
Jacka at his best. Lil Rue comes correct aswell. 5/5
4. OMG ft. J. Stalin
Pretty uptempo track, but it works and it's kinda
catchy. J. Stalin adds sum to it. 5/5
5. The Verdict 2
6. The Rain ft. Smigg Dirtee & Vince V
Damn slow track with a cliche hook, but the whole
track is deep and seriously growing on me. 4.5/5
7. Let It Go
Great sample of course and a perfect backdrop for
Jacka's voice and delivery. Sweet track. 5/5
8. Knock Her Down ft. Smigg Dirtee & Lil Rue
Nice little intro instrumental. Had to get used to the
kind of laid back vibe but it grows on you big. 5/5
9. All Around The World ft. J. Stalin
Another favourite. Truly dope song with both Stalin
and Jacka delivering great verses over a dope beat.
The other features are pretty nice aswell. 5/5
10. Here We Are ft. 12 Gauge Shottie
Pretty much tied for favourite track of the alb. Jacka's
hook over that string sampled beat is just fire. 5/5
11. They Need That Mob Shit ft. Cellski & Stevie Joe
Only hard song on the album, which goes against the
whole overall feeling of the album but it's great.
Jacka's hook as a contrast is dope. Cellski takes it
away and Stevie Joe is his usual grimey self. 5/5
12. The Verdict 3
13. Imma King ft. Game
Game? Really? Had to get used to it, especialy with
the la la chant going on and the pretty basic hook.
After a while though, it grows on you and you take it
for what it is. A nice little track, nothing more, nothing
less. Wish it was a harder track though. 3.5/5

Again, as is the case with The Indictment, this is
just way too short having just 10 tracks. Luckily
when having bumped the whole album front to back
and a repeat or two, you do feel satisfied and it
feels like a complete album. I really Can't wait for
The Sentence, but I'm pretty sure it'll complete this
truly awesome trilogy release.
One last thing maybe, i would love to have had
some Mob Figaz features here. Rydah J, Fed X,
AP.9, Husalah. Oh well...
Overall Score: 9.5/10

RAEKWON - UNEXPECTED VICTORY

RAEKWON
UNEXPECTED VICTORY
2012

Too bad it's a mixtape because i would have loved
to have this one as the follow-up to last year's
awesome Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang.

After a few more listens though, i just hope some of
these tracks really will make it to a retail alb.
I take back my initial statement because really
there are too many features by Rae's artists.
Mobb Deep, CNN, LEP Bogus Boys, Styles P,
Busta Rhymes & Fred Da Godson not included.
All those tracks are pretty sick.
Overall the album's quality is lacking a little but
that doesn't mean it has some really dope songs.
Here are my favourites which are all 4.5 & 5/5:

Pinebox Story, Silk, Luxury Rap, Chinese Marines,
This Shit Hard, Soldier Story, A Few Good Men, Chupa Cabra,
Facetime (i know it's not a Rae track, but this reminds
me of the good ol RnB days) and Gangsta Cazals.
That makes 10 tracks i truly love/likes.
There aren't really any bad tracks here, except maybe
The Brewery which sounds bland as.
Also, that intro instrumental is amazing, that should've
been a whole track with just Rae on it.
Seriously can't wait for Rae'a next official drop, this is
heading in the right direction.
Overall Score: 8.5/10

YO GOTTI - LIVE FROM THE KITCHEN

YO GOTTI
LIVE FROM THE KITCHEN
2012

After a long ass wait and way too many mixtapes
Yo Gotti finally drops his latest effort!
Need to bump more but so far i have to say
the first 8 tracks are straight crack! Holy smokes
this is dope...i love yo gotti!!
I must say this aswell though:
"Go Girl" is ATROCIOUS! This will be worst track
of 2012 for a looong time. Can't believe Big K.R.I.T.
had anything to do with it. Fuckin hell...
and what's with only 11 tracks?!? Fuck man...

1. Testimony
First track sets off the rest of the alb perfect.
Hard beat with Yo Gotti flowin his ass off.
I love his delivery. Everything is grand. 4.5/5
2. Harder ft. Rick Ross
Mean mug om my face when this drops. Phat ass
beat and both Rozay and Gotti go off. 5/5
3. Killa
Special vibe all over this with the background
chants and that eerie hook, but i likes it. But
man Yo Gotti does his thing...he could go on
forever and never sound like he's run out. 4.5/5
4. Red White And Blue ft. Jadakiss
What a track! Dope beat and sick verses.
And when is Jadakiss going to make an album with
dirty south beats? He shines on every single one
he is on ever since his feature on Lil Jon's alb. 5/5
5. Single
Wasn't feeling the hook like that, maybe still am not,
but the beat and the verses make up for it. 4/5
6. Second Chance
Similar to the previous track but a better hook and
better verses. Love the start of the first one. 4.5/5
7. Cases ft 2Chainz
I dunno about this techno-2-unlimited-sounding
synth throughout the song, but besides that this
track is bumpin like a mufucka. 2Chainz (shoulda
stayed Titi Boi and neva changed his name) goes
off (though he's not a the same level as he was
with Playaz Circle). Gotti is Gotti. 4/5
8. Letter
Favourite track hands down and will most def
make a top 10 list at the end of the year (already).
Simply amazing track, everything is top notch. 5/5
9. Go Girl
Like i said, horrible to the worst degree. Fuck Wiz
Khalifa and fuck Big Sean. Shame on Gotti, Wale
and especially Big K.R.I.T. 0/5
10. We Can Get It On
They had to put a bitch song on the album.
Granted, its pretty cool. Gotti pulls it off and the
chick on the hook sounds like she suppose to.
The misses was hummin along, so i guess it does
the job for it's demographic. 4/5
11. 5 Star (Remix)
Why put this "old" song on the album
(lemme guess, uhum, Nicki Fuckin Minaj) and not Mirrors?
Anyway, this was a dope track when it dropped and it still is.
Minaj was still a bad bitch back then.
Now she far gone and plain trash. Oh well. This
track still that crack. 4/5

Overall, this album is worthy in the end, but given the
long wait, the amount of tracks (seriously pisses me off)
and comparison with his previous
flawless album "Back 2 Da Basics (man, that album
was fuckin great!) it does fall short. "Letter" alone though,
made me pre-order this, can't front. Simply put, it is a solid
Yo Gotti release but i did expect a whole lot more
(even though Gotti himself didn't disappoint at all).
Overall Score: 8.5/10

CHILDISH GAMBINO - CAMP

CHILDISH GAMBINO
CAMP
2011

Totally let this fly by me. Heard good things about it
but the cover made me go nah. That was dumb.
After realising this is Donald Glover, Troy from Community,
I went back to peep it out and boi was I wrong.
This album is something special seriously.
Once you get passed the fact that this is Troy and you
can take the album serious, you're in for a treat.

1. Outside
Not my favourite joint but it's a nice song
that really shines when the beat disappears and
you're engaged in Donald's raps and the hook. 4/5
2. Fire Fly
Feels like I've heard this before, but regardless
it's a nice lil track that doesn't stand out. 4/5
3. Bonfire
Donald goes off! Love this one. Not usually my
type of track, but it's Mr. Glover that gets the nod.
Great verses and sick beat. Love the rawness. 5/5
4. All The Shine
Like the first two tracks this a pretty dope song, but
wouldn't call this a favourite. Still great. 4.5/5
5. Letter Home
No drums, no rap, but having this on in the background,
I still like listening to it. 3.5/5
6. Heartbeat
Wasn't into this at first with the uptempo beat and
then that heavy club synth coming through but
this is one of the best cuts of the album. Donald's
verses really make this awesome. Great hook. 5/5
7. Backpackers
Sick song. Period. Love the verses and Donald's
whole flow and delivery is dope. 4.5/5
8. L.E.S.
One of my favourite joints. The hook is catchy as
and the verses are truly great. Top notch. 5/5
9. Hold You Down
Hands down my fav track. Proves what talent
Donald Glover really is. Best beat, musically aswell.
Add perfect verses and hook to top it off. 5/5
10. Kids (Keep Up)
Sounds soft right? Still, this song is awesome.
Another definite favourite thanks to the verses.
Lovin all the strings throughout these tracks. 5/5
11. You See Me
A 180 with the previous track. Still dope, because
it is Donald Glover. He goes off on the last verse!
Any other artist on this and I woulda hated it. 4/5
12. Sunrise
One of my least favourites. Not feelin the hook
nor the beat. Donald is great but I can't get past
the beat or that annoying hook. 2/5
13. That Power
Last song and what a song it is. It starts off as a little
mediocre but after 1:50 something happens to the
track and it is just amazing. And then when the track
comes to and end we get an outro like Kanye's off
his first album (or Kia Shine's who did the same) or
even more so, Tela's intro to his classic album
"the world isn't enough", where we get a story told
over a truly dope instrumental track. I love these
type of songs a lot, especially if the beat is that good.
Which is the case here aswell. And I love this bus
story. Typical Donald/Troy (had to say it). 5/5

Looking at the individual scores, you might say
this is a good album, might say great. But really
that is not the case. It is way better than that. The fact
is when you listen to this album as a whole and truly
listen to everything and just sit back and relax it is,
well fantastic. I had to get used to the a-typical rap
and the fact Troy from Community is rapping,
but really Donald Glover deserves praise. For everything
he does and he is a great lyricist and producer.
He might channel Kanye West in his songs and style,
but after a dozen listens, you forget that feeling.
The album has its own merits. That says a lot.
Overall Score: 9.5/10
